Chalk and Cheese

Chalk and Cheese

We woke up to rain on Saturday morning for our drive to Sandringham. Sadly I went down with a stomach bug early Saturday morning so the day was a bit of a wash out! Being ill in a motorhome is not much fun so we did discuss going home but stuck it out. Sandringham Camping and Caravan site was vast! Luckily they were very accommodating as we had managed to book a pitch with no electric which they changed for us. Mike escaped the van on Saturday afternoon and had an explore on his bike whilst the dogs kept me company in bed. On Sunday we managed a walk up to the visitors centre and around some of the Sandringham woodland. Quite a few people  around and lots of trees to keep us dry when it rained! We also found the house at Pooh  Corner..

Luckily I felt better on Monday so we managed a 40km cycle up through some local villages to Hunstanton (not the prettist of seaside venues!) managing to stop at a little garden centre for coffee and cake. They had an amazing selection of cakes but obviously 'oat milk flat white' not something they knew how to serve so I had to reject a coffee strong enough to stand a spoon in first time round but the cake slice kept me quiet.

On Tuesday we moved onto Lincolnshire. We set up at a lovely certified site - Happyford run by Doug and Louise. There were ponies in the fields and Doug was just off to golf! On Tuesday evening we walked down to the town of Louth. Quite a big town with an array of shops ranging from a lovely independent cheese shop that gave you choclate mice with your purchases, to Peacocks! The parish chuch looked more like a cathedral, but apparently it has the tallest spire of any medieval parish church in Britain.

On Wednesday we explored the hilly Lincolnshire Wolds by bike. The scenery was stunning  and it was a beautiful day. I wanted to keep stopping to take photos but we were very aware of the dogs in the van. They were onvisouly pleased to see us when we got back but still quite cool.

On Thursday we took the dogs out of town the other way for a walk down the canal to Avingham. It turned out to be a really hot day so we were all pretty exhausted by the time we got back. It was a lovely walk despite having to walk very close to a herd of cows with calves and a bull.

Today we moved onto a Camping and Caravanning site near the sea at Mablethorpe. I think there are more static caravans here than houses but the site is very nice.
