France - 1st trip - south from Chartres
We planned to leave at 9 but woke at 8.30! After yummy eggy bread (the best way to use up old English bread ) we left Chartres at 10.30 and headed south with a plan to stop in Chateaudun for lunch. We got to the small FREE aire sited right under the impressive chateau just after midday. We parked with the intention of moving on after exploring the town. After a brief chat with a friendly couple from Norfolk we had a quick walk along the river and back round some streets to Vincent. After lunch (obviously french bread and cheese) we explored the beautiful and very quiet town via the clearly signposted 'Route Touristique'. The old town is impressive with its narrow streets, 16th century houses and lovely views. On returning to Vincent at 3pm we decided to relax in the sun by the river rather than moving on. It's a hard life. :)
The aire was busy all afternoon with people arriving and trying to park. There is only room for about 8 motorhomes and with on site water and disposal facilities it is obviously popular. We had lovely chats with the other English couples - parking so close to others encourages a more sociable attitude.
