France Passion

We left Camping Les Cigules after breakfast and headed along the coast.  Mike had studied the forecast map carefully and assured me that the forecast for Toulon was sun!  The drive towards Frejus was stunning and we thought of stopping there but the town did not seem very impressive and the campsite had terrible reviews so we carried on.  Our drive took us past Saint-Tropez and we decided to stop for lunch at a small village, Puget-Ville, which had a motorhome service point.  This turned out to be a bad choice as the sat nav took us down very narrow dead end streets.  We just about managed to get out unscathed and continued our journey in the rain to Hyeres, near Toulon.  The first France Passion site, a vineyard, looked a bit closed and as it was sited next to the road we continued to the next one.  We liked the second site (Domaine Bouisse-Matteri) a vineyard with a large shop selling wine and other products e.g. oil, jam and foie gras.  The owner was very friendly and we had a look round the shop and then took the dogs for a walk in the pouring rain.  At this point Mike realised that he had looked up the wrong Toulon.  Sadly the rain continued all night.

The next day we started our journey north to get to Calais for a Sunday morning crossing.  We drove through some beautiful scenery in the Carmargue and Languedoc areas - we will definitly have to return to explore another time.  After over 250km we arrived in  little village called La Cavalerie and found the France Passion site La Fromagerie des Artisous. We parked and then had fun trying some sheep cheese and cheesecake in the little shop.  It was all delicious so we bought some as well as a local wine and the sheeps yogurt. We had a quick walk round the walled town before settling in for the night.

After a very quiet night we continued our journey.  We decided to pay the toll and drive up the motorway which meant that we drove over the famous Viaduc de Millau. It is one of the worlds highest bridges and it spans a gorge created by the Tam river over a distance of 2.5km.  The views were amazing.

Our journey took us quite high, (over 1000m) through some stunning scenery and at one point we were surounded by snow.

Our aim was to get to a France Passion site at Nevers but we were thwarted by a gridlocked motorway so drove to our second choice, Ferme des Desrues.  We were welcomed by the farmer and took the dogs for a lovely walk in the countryside whilst the sun was setting.  We then had a quick tour of their lambs before returning to Vincent for the night.
