It's all very flat and why are towns all called xxxxby?

We had a very nice couple of days at Mablethorpe.  The campsite was nice and we got an ideal pitch next to a hedge.  We set up our wind break and the canopy and created our own space which allowed the dogs to stretch out of Vincent without being totally distracted by all the comings and goings.  It did not stop Mitzi from wandering off however!

On our first evening we waited until it cooled down a bit before walking the dogs.  I had looked at the map and seen what looked like a nice footpath to the beach.  It was not.... very prickly grass which Luna hated and then inpenetrable nettles which meant we needed to retract our steps back down the prickly grass much to Luna's disgust! There were however a lovely family of swans!

We then walked down to the seafront which has lots of sandy beach and run down beach huts but really was nothing special!

We decided to cycle on our last day and explore a bit more.  Bridget plotted a nice 40km loop with a town called Alford 1/2 way round which we hoped would have a place to stop for coffee and cake.  We started down the seafront south,

there were a few other cyclist but it was all pretty quiet!  We went through lots of empty little hamlets / villages and they were, nearly all, named to end in 'by'! Why?  Well Google says ... "The name comes from the Norse Bergebei, for a hill, and the Danish ending 'by' suggests that there was a Danish settlement here" so there you have it. Not sure that the places we went through could be considered to be hills given how flat it all was.  We did stop in Alford and have a flapjack and a coke but the town was not that exciting.  We cycled back through the middle of Mablethorpe ... it was a Saturday and it was heaving with holiday makers, not a mask in sight anywhere on anyone not even in the Amusement Arcades and Chippies!

The dogs were very pleased to see us when we got back.

The rest of the day was pretty lazy, although Bridget did manage a run (!), and we walked a different way after the heat had passed in the evening so Luna was saved prickly feet.

We set off for home on the Sunday morning and made it safely home by mid afternoon.

Another trip in Vincent ended!
