Chablis and Burrs
We headed into Chablis for breakfast. We managed to find a nice big car park and then walked to the Boulangerie with the dogs and discovered a 'Balade des Grands Crus de Chablis' which we decided to do after the tasting.
After the biggest Pain au Chocolat on the planet we headed to Christophe Camu for a tasting. The tasting took place in an underground 'Cave' which was fun. The Chablis was very good and we learnt quite a bit about the wines and where the grapes for the different grades came from. Mike bought a few bottles - not our cheapest wine purchase! (M) A Premier Cru for Xmas!
After collecting the dogs from Vincent we started the walk amongst the Grand Crus vineyards. The walk was clearly marked with information signs. We were lucky to see some hand picking of the grapes. Chablis was a hive of activity as the grapes were all being picked either mechanically or by hand. Monsieur Camu had finished picking his the day before. The walk was a bit too long for Mitzi and as the temperature rose she went on strike so Mike had to carry her for the last bit.
We then drove to the local park and sat in the shade for lunch before driving to our next stop. We had found a France Passion cider farm that sounded fun. Unfortunately it was very closed so we eventually found the local campsite in Eaux-Puiseaux. It was a nice site in the apple capital area of France. We explored the village the next morning. (M) However my morning dog stretch resulted in 100's (and more!) of small grass burrs all over the 2 dogs which we have spent the rest of the day removing (!) thankfully none in ears! There seemed to be a lot if house bric a brac sales which was slightly weird!
We left the campsite and drove north to Arcis-Sue-Aube but did not like the campsite we had selected so drove onto Mery-sur-Seine. We parked in the aire for lunch and watched the pouring rain! We decided to stay at the aire rather than move to the campsite over the canal.
