Views from the wanderweg
We woke up early planning to get to the next campsite before the rugby started. But when we got up the view over the lake was stunning and we spent a long time standing by the lake talking to a British family so we ended up staying at the campsite to watch the rugby. Go England!
We checked out of the campsite at about 12 and headed up to the next spot. The road took us through amazing countryside and wound its way steeply into the mountains - not easy in a motorhome! We reached the top and found a carpark in the Gantrish park at Gurnigel. The views were amazing and there were lots of people with posh cameras taking pictures of the birds. We enjoyed a leisurely lunch while sitting watching the view in the sun.
After lunch Charlotte and Michael found a two hour 'flat' walk, so we set off. The walk followed a series of wanderwegs (footpaths) through the valley. The first half of the walk was steeply downhill, so inevitably the second half of the walk was steeply uphill! But the scenery and the views were worth it.
After the 5 mile walk we got back to the car park just as the sun was setting and sat to watch. By this time there was a selection of camper vans in the car park – good people watching!
In the morning we woke up just-in-time to watch an amazing sunrise and then after some breakfast headed back down the mountain for a drive to Versoix.
The journey took longer than expected because we stopped for petrol at Fribourg and then had to find somewhere to empty our toilet! We eventually found somewhere in Montreux but needed the assistance of a Swiss motorhome owner to get the water pump to work.
We had arranged to meet the Swiss Naylor family at 12:30 at Mireille's flat in Versoix. We arrived just before 1 and were greeted by all the cousins! We stayed for a few hours for a lovely lunch and a good catch up - it was lovely to see the family and hopefully will see each other more frequently from now on.
We then headed to Lake Neuchatel to spend the night at a dairy farm we had found on Swiss Terroir. We didn’t arrive until it was dark but it was fun watching the farmers deliver all their milk and we bought some fresh Gruyere cheese, sauscisone and Piquant Oncle Wylli(!) for dinner.
