front end or dashboard.\u00a0 A bit of Googling and I found this&#8230;. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.home-assistant.io\/docs\/ecosystem\/hadashboard\/\">https:\/\/www.home-assistant.io\/docs\/ecosystem\/hadashboard\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This takes you to the install for Appdaemon here <a href=\"https:\/\/appdaemon.readthedocs.io\/en\/stable\/DASHBOARD_INSTALL.html\">https:\/\/appdaemon.readthedocs.io\/en\/stable\/DASHBOARD_INSTALL.html<\/a>.\u00a0 This then directs you to the install site here <a href=\"https:\/\/www.home-assistant.io\/docs\/configuration\/packages\/\">https:\/\/www.home-assistant.io\/docs\/configuration\/packages\/<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-medium-font-size has-very-dark-gray-color\"><strong>Installing Appdaemon<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The instructions are pretty clear to start with. <br><br>1.\u00a0 Install appdaemon using pip3 ($ sudo pip3 install appdaemon)<br><br>but then it gets a little confusing (well to me) as it starts discussing development builds etc and then goes down to running the app and indicates a link to \/home\/homeassistant\/conf.<br>Well on checking I do not have that directory.<br><br>So you then need to go back to the 2nd link I posted above. <a href=\"https:\/\/appdaemon.readthedocs.io\/en\/stable\/DASHBOARD_INSTALL.html\">https:\/\/appdaemon.readthedocs.io\/en\/stable\/DASHBOARD_INSTALL.html<\/a> and look firther down the are some instructions in a different section called configuration.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/appdaemon.readthedocs.io\/en\/stable\/CONFIGURE.html\">https:\/\/appdaemon.readthedocs.io\/en\/stable\/CONFIGURE.html<\/a> follow the instructions there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u00a0Set up a new directory \/home\/homeassistant\/conf<\/li><li>Create appdaemon.yaml and populate this<\/li><li>Go to Home Assistant and create a Long Lived Access Token.\u00a0 The instructions on how to do this are on the same page but at the bottom<\/li><li>Update the appdaemon.yaml with this token<\/li><li>Skips over the section on Filters (I guess in the future I may come back to this)<\/li><li>MQTT is added<\/li><li>Test App added<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Back to the installation instructions and changes made to get the service starting at boot time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>$ sudo nano \/etc\/systemd\/system\/appdaemon@appdaemon.service<\/li><li>Create the file replacing the user bit %I and the &lt;full path to config directory><br><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">[Unit]<br>Description=AppDaemon<br>After=home-assistant@homeassistant.service<br>[Service]<br>Type=simple<br>User=%I<br>ExecStart=\/usr\/local\/bin\/appdaemon -c &lt;full path to config directory><br>[Install]<br>WantedBy=multi-user.target<br><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li> $ sudo systemctl daemon-reload<\/li><li>$ sudo systemctl enable appdaemon@appdaemon.service &#8211;now<\/li><li>$ sudosystemctl start appdaemon@appdaemon.service<br><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Installing the Dashboard<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now back here <a href=\"https:\/\/appdaemon.readthedocs.io\/en\/stable\/DASHBOARD_INSTALL.html\">https:\/\/appdaemon.readthedocs.io\/en\/stable\/DASHBOARD_INSTALL.html<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The appdaemon.yaml file need updating again.\u00a0 This time with<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">hadashboard:  <br>  dash_url: http:\/\/192.168.1.20:5050<br>  dash_ssl_certificate: \/etc\/letsencrypt\/live\/somehost\/fullchain.pem<br>  dash_ssl_key: \/etc\/letsencrypt\/live\/somehost\/privkey.pem<br>  dash_password: !secret dash_password<br>  dashboard_dir: \/home\/homeassistant\/conf\/dashboards<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Add a new directory \/home\/homeassistant\/conf\/dashboards and create a new file hello.dash and add this to it:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">##\n## Main arguments, all optional\n##\ntitle: Hello Panel\nwidget_dimensions: [120, 120]\nwidget_margins: [5, 5]\ncolumns: 8\n\nlabel:\n    widget_type: label\n    text: Hello World\n\nlayout:\n    - label(2x2)\n<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>You can now navigate to the url e.g. <a href=\"http:\/\/192.168.1.20:5050\">http:\/\/192.168.1.20:5050<\/a>.<br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After having used Home Assistant\u00a0 for a few weeks I wondered whether these was a &#8220;nicer&#8221;
